A fading trace of the lost St. Vincent's Hospital vanishes for good

Last August, I spotted this fading relic of the shuttered St. Vincent’s Hospital at a Greenwich Village subway station. Those faded words, above, directed straphangers up the stairs toward the hospital, which closed in 2010 after serving the community for 161 years. 

Alas, at some point since, they got around to scrubbing the words from the tile wall. Ne…
