My Arthur Treacher’s was on Queens Blvd in Forest Hills. My grandmother and I would go once a week. Our standard order was fish and chips for her, and a Krunch Pup and Chips for me. Glad to see they are making a comeback but I have heard that their batter recipe has changed.

A very cool recollection, Ashley! Ah, so many great memories along Queens Boulevard. I hear stories about the Sizzler there, among many other long-lost joints.

Arthur Treacher’s was only two blocks from my house and you could smell the hot oil one block away. Although I lived in FH for many years, I think I only went to the Sizzler once. I was more of a deli and Chinese food kid. With the exception of Knish Nosh, most of the neighborhood places are sadly gone - pizza joints, delis, restaurants, etc.

Long live, Knish Nosh! I once lived downwind of a McDonald's -- oh boy, did I ever know when they had fresh hot fries!

That’s Cuyahoga FALLS not Heights. Now I want some of their fish n chips 😁

D'oh! Changed it, thank you. And yes to fish and chips!

We would go to one off Rt 17 in NJ. I liked the chips, my mom liked the fish. They had a weird giveaway one year, a "floating candle" that just amazed me at the time.

Oooh! I gotta find that on eBay. I think those floating candles were def a thing back in the 1970s. Where on 17? Paramus area?

I think one further north near Lodi tried serve booze of some sort. I remember some comments about it between my mom and grandmother.

Funny, somebody else mentioned an AT in Florida that offered booze. I had no idea they did that!

They eventually had one at Paramus Park, but not sure when that one opened. We went to one down in Rutherford, right after you got off Rt 3 to 17. It was on the southbound side where the Burger King/Wendy's Popeyes/Starbucks are now. It used to be Amigos/Burger King/Great Escape and was a regular hangout for me once I was able to drive.

Edit: I just remembered, I think their might have also been a Roy Rogers there at some point.

Got it! Yep, I can totally seed them in that spot! Ah, Roy's ...

Wow! Indeed, it’s a former Arthur Treacher’s! Good eye, Steve!

Dang, how lucky am I? Last week I got to share that my neighborhood has an old Taco Bell is now a bankruptcy lawyer's office, and this week I learned that my neighborhood has a former Arthur Treacher's location with the sign and facade intact. What does next week hold???

Rolando Pujol's avatar

Mansard McDonald's that now a chiropractor's office! :)

And now look what just came across my social media feed: https://blockclubchicago.org/2025/04/14/copacubana-cafe-stays-boarded-up-amid-court-battle-between-its-owner-and-his-landlord/

This is the former Treacher's I linked to yesterday.

Rolando Pujol's avatar

Article does not mention it was an AT!

I assume because barely anyone remembers it. It was a BBQ/Burger place when I moved into the neighborhood seven years ago. Any idea when it may have closed in Chicago? I can;t find any info.

Lakewood, just across the border from Cleveland, on Madison at W. 117th St.

Mine was in Allentown, PA. Maybe on Union Boulevard? I still miss those hush puppies.

When my parents retired to Florida, they soon discovered that Arthur Treacher’s was the only fast food eatery that served beer. They had dinner there at least four times a week thereafter.

Nice! I never realized some locations served beer!
