Thank you for a beautiful reminder of this great man. A model for how an ex-president should conduct himself. We were lucky to have him. We didn't know it at the time it seems.

Very much agree! A good human being and we are lucky he chose to enter public life and stay there after his first term. Rosalynn made the point once that he should have won a second term, but had he done so, the Carter Center would never have happened. And how sad would that be.

I think he was miserable in the job of president. Not everyone is suited for it. Much better ex president, even in terms of his diplomacy and statesmanship.

The best ex-president we ever had! And very true. Diplomacy/statesmanship were one of his strong suits as president , dramatically challenged, of course, with Iran.

Sadly the region of Southwest Georgia is one of the poorest regions in the country. Tourism to Plains has benefitted this often neglected part of Georgia and the United States. If you're planning a trip to Plains, may I also suggest some side excursions to Americus, a nice little college town, Providence Canyon and Kolomoki Mounds State Parks, and the historical town of Fort Gaines, GA, which has a wonderful mesuem, a neat Frontier Village, and world class fishing on Lake Eufaula. Far from any interstate, this area and its residents could use a boost in their otherwise dying economies. Safe travels.

Great suggestions! I spent the night in Americus and poked around a bit .... I really enjoyed that visit, too. Thanks for the helpful comment!

When I visited several years ago, someone at the visitors center said they owned plots at the cemetery near the boyhood farm. The article you referenced says otherwise, so maybe plans have changed. Hopefully we won’t know for a while.

Indeed, well said. I hope we are well away from having to learn that.
