The Macy's closing is not surprising, but such a bummer regardless. When I was really little my mom would take my brother and me to the original Wanamaker's via the train for a fancy lunch, and then I remember walking around one more time when the store was in the process of closing in the mid-90s. I'm making a run up to Philly in early February to take some final photos of the space as a department store, and from what I've seen they've actually been pretty restrained in hanging the liquidation signs outside of the Grand Court, which is heartening.
Thank you! And it's so sad about the old Wanamaker's -- I will try to make a run down there, too! I'm sad I missed it at Christmas time ... never had the proper experience,
The Christmas light show is definitely a memorable experience, but to me, the quintessential must-do while there is listening to the organ play. They're still doing the concerts twice a day until the store closes, so you still have a chance to experience that!
At the Please Touch Museum in Fairmount Park, you can see a static display of the old monorail that used to run around the toy department in Wanamaker's. And of course, we'll always have the Mannequin movies that were filmed here!
Congrats on the book! Looking forward to it.
Thank you so much Bob! I will def reach out to you in advance as well!
Wow. Brooks and Joe Marzilli's.
How sad right???
Would hate to see the Bendix close, I have a lot of fun memories of going there with my mom.
I will be heading over to Burgermaster for one last meal and to snap some photos this week.
Great! Would love if you could share a pic or two with me for the newsletter!
The big duck is a favorite of mine. I live not too far from it.
I need to make it out for the Christmas lighting this year!
Can't wait to check out your book!
